Dao De Jing #33: Virtues

The Dao De Jing (Tao Te Ching) is not only one of the world's great literary treasures, it is one of the foundational texts for Philosophical Daoism. An online version of this classic may be read here. In the meantime, here's number 33, Virtues:

33. Virtues

Who understands the world is learned;
Who understands the self is enlightened.
Who conquers the world has strength;
Who conquers the self has harmony.
Who is determined has purpose;
Who is contented has wealth.
Who defends his home may long endure;
Who surrenders his home may long survive it.
